Yup, I think I might have a thing for bunny ears…

For a review of L’amour Fou, the new documentary about the life of Yves Saint-Laurent, I was asked to illustrate Ballet dancer Zizi Jeanmaire.

Jeanmaire was a close friend of the designer. They collaborated together a few times and she modeled for him.

Zizi Jeanmaire & Yves Saint-Laurent

I haven’t seen the documentary yet, but I can’t wait to watch it.

Yves Saint-Laurent fascinates me. He had a terribly hard life and died of a very tragic illness, but he was also an inspiring character and one of the most important designers in the world. He created the first tuxedo for women, he created the first ready-to-wear line and he was the first designer ever to use ethnic models on runway shows. This was a man who was born in the thirties, by the way, completely ahead of his time.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Parade. Source: Pinterest.

Even though Europe does not celebrate Thanksgiving, this makes me happy for two reasons:

1) It reminds me to be thankful for everything I have and for everything I have achieved.

My life is going through some major changes at the moment, and even though some of them are difficult, I am thankful for them. Change is always for the better, right?

2) Thanksgiving also reminds me that in exactly ONE MONTH it will be Christmas. Yay!

I love Christmas. It’s by far my favorite time of the year. This year it will be slightly different from the usual: I am going to Brazil. After almost 20 years away, I am going to spend my first Christmas and New Years over there. I don’t know what to expect but I’m very excited and looking forward to it. Though I’m sure I’ll miss the cold weather and the European feel of Christmas: it’s cozy and pretty special. But like I said: “change is always for the better”, so bring it on!

Have a beautiful weekend, everyone.

Lots of love from Lisbon.

It’s always wonderful being a woman. Be it in the sun or in the rain, in color or in black and white, it doesn’t matter.

There is always beauty to be had and beauty to behold.

Last week was the launch of Fashion Africa, a book about African Fashion Design by writer and designer Jacqueline Shaw.

I was one of the illustrators invited to take part in the project and I did A LOT of illustrations! It was such a great project, I just couldn’t help it! I posted a few pieces last week, but here are a few more. This time, for London-based African fashion label Zed-Eye.

The launch was a great success and the book is already available to order. You can buy it online here.

Yes, I know it received some bad reviews, but I don’t really care. I’m in love with The Kennedys.

I don’t know how historically accurate it is, but I think it’s well produced, it has an amazing plot, a good cast and great wardrobe.

I’ve never been a fan of Katie Holmes but I like her as Jackie. She is not perfect and she’s certainly a little stiff, but it’s a fantastic role and I’ve never seen her in anything remotely good. The men are great though, especially Tom Wilkinson as Joe Kennedy Sr. (He’s always good, actually, in every role he plays). Either way, I’m hooked. – Plus, it’s a nice break from True Blood (yes, I’m addicted to that one too, I’m afraid), so I highly recommend it.

Oh, and before I forget:

Have a nice and sunny weekend, everyone. And to my friends in London: enjoy Fashion Week! I’m slightly jealous. You know I am.

Lots of love from Lisbon.

It’s so warm and sunny here in Lisbon, I wish I had a puppy I could take out for a walk and play with.

Illustration by Me. I used black markers on plain white paper.

Back in Brazil, my brother had a beagle when we were kids. Her name was Wendy and she was the cutest dog in the world. So beautiful, I can’t even begin to describe her. She had these huge ears and she was white with light brown and black patches all over. Something like this:

Having said that, however, she was also naughty, disobedient and completely impossible to train. A perfect nightmare! I guess we were too young to realize how much work goes into taking care of a puppy and she was a handful!

At some point I would love to have a dog again. Maybe not as mischievous as a beagle (unless I live in a house with a big backyard), but maybe a smaller breed like a pug or a dachshund. I think cats are gorgeous, but I’m definitely a dog person! :)
