Two new illustrations for an article on the FAD Junior Awards in London. – Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) is a British organization that works with young people to give them the confidence to get into the fashion world.
Zandra Rhodes was the one to present the award to the best Designer, so I was asked to draw a little portrait of her, which I was very honored to do (plus I LOVE her hair!).
This illustration was for an interview with designer Bora Aksu for a preview of his collection for this year’s London Fashion week.
I was asked to illustrate something inspired by his last autumn/winter collection, which I found surprisingly feminine and delicate (for a winter collection anyway). The mix of materials, the odd-angled cuts, details and play on volume created interesting silhouettes that I found so different from the usual more tailored winter look. I also loved the contrast between the pastel colored dresses and the black and scruffy leggings. It breaks that whole girlie aspect and adds edge and an urban touch to the look.
Just found this little piece. Long lost and forgotten amongst the general chaos that is inside my computer.
Although I am completely addicted to new work and what’s coming next, it’s always nice to rescue old pieces of drawing so they don’t become extinct. These clumsy lines helped me get where I am today, and for that, I am grateful.
